WELCOME TO BEAUTIFUL BURNS' COUNTRY

frontdoorHillowton House is an historic 19th Century mansion house in Castle Douglas, the west wing of which is a friendly, family-run guest house. It provides everything you would expect from good bed & breakfast accommodation, but gives you the feeling of staying at a grand country house.

Situated in the heart of Burns' country it provides a gateway to Scotland with Edinburgh, Glasgow and the Lowlands of Scotland all within easy reach.

The house is in its own extensive grounds in beautiful, peaceful countryside, up a private driveway leading from the main road, and provides plenty of secure parking for cars and even a bike shed.fronthth

Castle Douglas, just a short walk away, is situated in the stunning Galloway Countryside and is a notable 'Food Town' with over fifty businesses in and around the town producing and selling foodstuff and drink. For a small town it also has a surprisingly large number of good quality cafés and restaurants.

The lovely town of Dumfries is close by and amongst other things is famous as the place where Scotland's baird Robert Burns (Rabbie) spent his last years, he is buried in nearby Saint Michael's Churchyard. You may also like to visit the Museum based in Burn's old house which is well worth seeing.
